Fakultas Peternakan (Fapet) UGM mendampingi santri Pondok Pesantren Is Aswaja Lintang Songo, Piyungan, Bantul, membudidayakan ayam bahagia, yaitu konsep budidaya ayam petelur yang mengedepankan kesejahteraan hewan (animal welfare). Kegiatan pendampingan dilaksanakan oleh Laboratorium Biokimia Nutrisi Fapet UGM sejak Agustus 2020 dan meliputi pembuatan pakan secara mandiri, manajemen budidaya ayam petelur, dan penjualan.
“Peternakan ayam petelur tentunya harus dapat dikelola dengan memperhatikan kaidah kesejahteraan hewan. Lebih dari itu, peternak perlu memperhatikan lingkungan. Pengelolaan yang baik dari sisi pakan dan limbah dapat mengurangi cemaran lingkungan. Selain itu, peternakan juga dapat dijalankan secara efisien sehingga meningkatkan keuntungan peternak,” ujar Prof. Dr. Ir. Lies Mira Yusiati, SU., IPU., ASEAN. Eng, ketika berkunjung ke PP Is Aswaja Lintang, Kamis (6/8).
Sebanyak 100 ayam petelur yang dibudidayakan di pondok pesantren tersebut merupakan bantuan dari PT. Widodo Makmur Unggas (WMU) dan Himpunan Kerukunan Tani Indonesia (HKTI) cabang Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY).
Prof. Dr. Ir. Ali Agus, DAA., DEA., IPU., ASEAN. Eng selaku ketua HKTI cabang DIY dan Dekan Fakultas Peternakan UGM menjelaskan bahwa budidaya ayam petelur menghasilkan protein hewani untuk masyarakat dengan harga terjangkau.
“Selain itu, budidaya ayam petelur dengan konsep ayam bahagia dapat menurunkan stres pada ayam dan meningkatkan kualitas telur, terutama protein,” ujar Ali.
Pengurus pondok pesantren, Drs. H. Heri Kuswanto, M.Si., memberikan apresiasi terhadap program ayam bahagia ini. Dirinya mengatakan, selain ilmu agama, pertanian dan peternakan menjadi program utama pengembangan pondok. Peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan dalam mengelola peternakan diharapkan dapat membekali para santri apabila nantinya sudah mulai hidup di masyarakat.
Selain di Pondok Pesantren Is Aswaja Lintang Songo, pendampingan budidaya ayam petelur juga akan dilakukan di Pondok Pesantren Irsyadul Anam, Kiyudan, Selomartani, Kalasan dan Paguyuban Ibu-Ibu Dasawisma Dewi Sari di Buyutan, Gadingsari, Sanden, Bantul.
Pemberdayaan budidaya ayam petelur kepada masyarakat berpotensi besar menambah kesejahteraan masyarakat melalui peningkatan ekonomi yang dirasakan setiap hari. Selain itu, program tersebut dapat meningkatkan konsumsi protein hewani masyarakat. (Humas Fapet/Nadia)
