Ibu rumah tangga berperan penting dalam keluarga, terutama berkaitan dengan urusan pangan. Seorang ibu memiliki andil besar dalam menentukan bahan pangan yang akan dikonsumsi oleh anggota keluarga. Berdasarkan latar belakang tersebut, melalui progam CSR (Corporate social responsibility) PT. Widodo Makmur Unggas bekerjasama dengan Himpunan Kerukunan Tani Indonesia (HKTI) dan Fakultas Peternakan UGM melakukan program pemberdayaan masyarakat dengan budidaya ayam bahagia di Paguyuban Ibu-Ibu Dasawisma Dewi Sari, Dusun Buyutan, Desa Gadingsari, Kecamatan Sanden, Kabupaten Bantul.
Budidaya ayam bahagia merupakan konsep memelihara ayam petelur dengan memenuhi unsur kesejahteraan hewan (animal welfare), sehingga didapatkan ternak yang sehat dan menghasilkan produk telur yang berkualitas. Bantuan ayam yang diberikan kepada paguyuban berjumalh 50 ekor.
Prof. Dr. Ir. Ali Agus, DAA., DEA., IPU., ASEAN Eng. selaku Ketua Himpunan Kerukunan Tani Indonesia (HKTI) cabang Yogyakarta sekaligus Dekan Fakultas Peternakan UGM menyampaikan bahwa telur merupakan bahan pangan protein hewani yang mudah didapatkan oleh masyarakat dengan harga terjangkau. Pemberdayaan masyarakat dengan budidaya ayam petelur menjadi alternative yang baik dalam program ketahanan pangan yang dimulai dari tingkat rumah tangga.
“Tujuan melibatkan ibu rumah tangga yakni memudahkan akses bahan pangan sumber protein hewani. Ayam petelur dapat menghasilkan telur setiap hari yang langsung bisa dimanfaatkan oleh ibu rumah tangga, baik untuk bahan pangan ataupun dijual apabila jumlahnya berlebih. Kesediaan pangan berkualitas seperti telur akan mampu meningkatkan imunitas seseorang, terlebih di masa pandemi COVID-19” tambah Ali Agus.
Program budidaya ayam bahagia nantinya akan didampingi oleh Laboratorium Biokimia Nutrisi, Fakultas Peternakan UGM. Pendampingan kepada ibu rumah tangga meliputi pelatiha pembuatan pakan ternak, manajemen pemeliharaan, bahkan hingga penjualan.
Kepala Laboratorium biokimia Nutrisi, Prof. Dr. Ir. Lies Mira Yusiati, SU., IPU., ASEAN Eng. menjelaskan bahwa selain memperhatiakan kondisi lingkungan ayam dipelihara, budidaya ayam bahagia juga harus memperhatikan pakan yang diberikan. Pakan harus sesuai kebutuhan ternak. Pemberian pakan dengan nutrien yang berlebih dapat merugikan dan mencemari lingkungan. Oleh sebab itu, pendampingan ini menjadi penting untuk memberikan pengetahuan kepada ibu rumah sehingga dapat memiliki keterampilan dalam budidaya ayam petelur. Sehingga kedepan peternakan dapat dijalankan secara efisien dan berkelanjutan.
Wahyu Murwani, S.H., sebagai Ketua Paguyuban menyampaikan bahwa program budidaya ayam bahagia dapat membantu ibu-ibu mendapatkan bahan pangan telur yang berkualitas. Ibu-ibu juga dapat memiliki pemahaman dan keterampilan dalam pemeliharaan ayam yang baik sesuai kaidah peternakan yang menyejahterakan ternak.
